Information: Science and Technology for the New Century

Information is considered to be a primary good whose production and exchange measure the level of development of human society. Information is also a novel key concept for the understanding of reality. In the year 2000 on the occasion of the Jubilee of the University Professors, a Conference on "Information: Science and Technology for the New Century" was held in Rome (Italy) with the objective of deepening the understanding of the notion of Information in complex structures, such as mathematical and logical theories, biological systems, cognitive systems, social and economical systems. This book presents the revised and updated contributions of the speakers at that Conference and introduces the reader to some recent developments and achievements in the understanding the role of Information in the modern world.
